Day 59- In The Deed The Glory - Nebraska Tunnel Walk

Dear UNL,

This past Footbal season was something else.  That is for sure.  Looking back to the games we went too, the football players we saw on campus, and the millions of husker shirts and pants and hats we saw in the city alone brings us to this letter.  We know football season is over.  Actually, we're a little saddened by it.  But it's the past now and we can reminisce about the great moments.

Watching this little video, we actually got goosebumbps.  It reminded us of why we love Husker Football.  Why we go to the games, good and bad, and still come out die hard Husker Fans. There are many reasons that Huskers have fans all around the world.  We randomly polled our audience and we're here to give you a few of those reasons.  Le us know if we missed ones that might be important to you.  Afterall, we're only human, so we will have missed some. :)

Husker Nation: Husker fans EVERYWHERE you go, young, old, AND everything in between.

The Blackshirt Defense.

Throwing the bones at a football game.

The tradition of football and a team full of players that are champions.

"Salutations, Husker Nation." -Prince Amukamara.

That feeling you get, standing in the student section at a home footbal game, everyone cheering for the same team as they rush onto the field.

Holding your shoe up before kick-off and throwing the bones for the Defense.

CaNUfeelit?

The stands taking turns screaming "HUSKER!!"....."POWER!!".

The loud, deafining, roar of 81,091 HUSKER FANS as they cheer on the best team in college football.

The crowd roaring "SUUUUHHHHHHHHH" in the stands the season before.

The fact that games have been sold out since 1962.

Day by Day, we get better and better. Husker prayer before every game.

Day 58- Excellent Role-Models

Dear UNL,

As you all know (and if you don't, listen up!) DearUNL joined Twitter!  Since joining, we have begun following some of the football players, who needless to say, have shocked us by their tweets.  These men have uplifted our spirits, and definitely changed our views of the Husker football team. Why, you may ask? Because they post Bible verses, things God has done in their lives, and talk about going to Bible studies.

Brandon Kinnie, Prince Amukamara, Ben Cotton, and Will Compton, we salute you.  Thanks for being unashamed to post awesome Christian tweets that brighten the day of many of your followers, and for being awesome men of God!  You all definitely break the stereotype many have of college football players, and it's awesome!

Stay classy UNL, we will always love you (and your AWESOME tweets)

Sincerely,
barney & killa

Day 57- Daily Nebraskan

Dear UNL,

Let us take the time to point out something of importance to you.  Mayhaps, you've already taken time out of your busy(or maybe not so busy) day to engage in such things.  But if you haven't, you should really take the time to pick up one of the Daily Nebraskan Newspapers.  Available in pretty much every building on UNL's campus(both city and east), they are a great way to keep in touch with the happenings on campus.

For those of you interested in the overall stories of note, front page worthy news stories, and even the political comics/cartoons, you'll be happy to read the first section(or first leaf) of the paper.  It's chock full of stories that pertain to all parts of campus.  Whether it be the UNL Police System, Research going on on campus, different events you might want to participate in, or even engineering, to name a few, you are sure to find something you'll enjoy reading.  Continue looking around the paper and you'll see quotes from students, influential people on campus, and even some people you don't know.  For those of you who like letters to the editor, those can be found on this page too.  Once you're done reading, send a letter of recognition, thanks, or even something you didn't like(we all could use a little constructive criticism =] ) to opinion@dailynebraskan.com on the paper or give them a call!

Now for those of you "Artsy" types or those who enjoy sports, take a gander at the second section of the Daily Nebraskan.  The first couple of pages pertain to fine art and performing art types of stories.  Concerts that might be going on, movies to see, art shows and the like are all written about here.  Maybe find something new to enjoy while on campus!  Turn the pages and come to the sports section. This area is full of stories and articles about all sports on campus.  They write about the recent and upcoming games, wins, losses, and even potential awards and recruits.

Both sections of the paper have other numerous qualities as well.  For those of you who like to read ads?  There are plenty for you to feast your eyes upon.  Ads for restaurants, bars, stores on campus are plentiful throughout the paper  There are even some coupons that can be found every once in a while.  What struggling, hypothetically poor college student doesn't looooove coupons?!  And for those of you who enjoy a challenge or are intellectually better then some of us(barney, in particular) there are cross words that range from easy to difficult and are a great way to spend your time.  There are also Su Do Ku's that barney finds horribly difficult.... but they might be the only one.

Overall, this is a great campus paper.  They take pride in their work.  On the inside page of the first section, it can be found: "Founded in 1901, the Daily Nebraskan is the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's only independent daily newspaper written, edited, and produced entirely by UNL Students.".  The pride they take and put into the paper can be seen right off the bat.  From the fantastic pictures they include to add some color and interest to the paper, to the articles that are written very well.  The student body at UNL is fairly represented and they do a great job of reporting on many different activities and ares of the University.  It makes it fun and interesting to read a paper that can teach you something new and keep it light and comical.  We've seen many a student enjoy a rest in the union or on the bus, reading a Daily Nebraskan.

Stay classy, UNL.  Keep reading those Daily Nebraskans and spread the word!  We know we will!  We will always love you(and laugh when barney tries to complete a DN SuDoKu).

Sincerely,
killa & barney
